The UK has never been designed for cyclists and will take decades to improve.Dutch city’s weren’t designed around the bicycle. Cycling only took off in the Netherlands in the Indians 1915- Forever Thank You For The Memories Tshirt  when Dutch people took to the streets to protest against the high number of child deaths on the roads. It can be done, it’s just that the English choose not to.The UK doesn’t invest in infrastructure. Its always make do and mend. And with our crumbling roads now, we aren’t even mending anymore. I lived in the Netherland from 1962 to unil1965. Cycling was everywhere. They had their own bike path on every road. Every town and city had them.I rode a Indians 1915- Forever Thank You For The Memories Tshirt   everywhere back then.Cycling was always popular in the Netherlands. They turned a corner in 1970…… as a result on the “Stop de Kindermoord movement initiated by Maartje van Putten. Flatter terrain and a healthier lifestyle played its part also. Oh and their “How can we do this” attitude, compared to the British “Why we shouldn’t do this” attitude. The Dutch have been cycling longer than that. The Netherlands is in comparison a flat country, making cycling much easier. still the point is that a lot of our towns and cities are older then bicycles so not all towns were designed around cycling. Though it is indeed through that we have been cycling for longer then the 70’s as you can see plenty in old news reels.

That the country is flat does make it easier, but what really helps is that everyone learns to drive and ride with bicycles on the road. We have cycle lessons in elementary school and then with driving lessons you are thought to be considerate of cyclists when they do have to be on the Indians 1915- Forever Thank You For The Memories Tshirt   with cars. Cycling uphill isn’t hard. And we now have e-bikes. We need to accept that there will be more cyclists and adapt our infrastructure to accommodate them. Manufacturers can’t cope with the demand, and there are backorders stretching into next year. People don’t want to use public transport any more. As I said previously, we need a “How can we do this” attitude, not a “Why we shouldn’t do this” attitude. We will adapt. Well- mostly flat anyway. Cycling into a strong wind can be every bit as tireing as cycling uphill by the way . Rubbish,I lived in Holland in 1949 and there were just as many bicycles then as there are now,also huge American cars everywhere.At 5pm on weekdays Voorburg wal in Amsterdam was impassable for motor traffic for about an hour.  The cyclists in Amsterdam don’t follow any rules. Pedestrians and motorists accommodate the cyclists, who race around the city with impunity.Absolute rubbish.
